Uros floating islands, located east from the city of Puno, are one of the traditional visits in Puno. These islands are artificial platforms, made with “totora” (a very common reed on the shores of the Lake), very skillfully interwoven. There are in total about 50 floating islands, located inside the bay of Puno in an area declared as a National Reserve. Most of these islands are located on both sides of the stream called “Rio Willy”, which is a water current feeding into the Lake that maintains its motion and current 14 kilometers deep into the lake. Along the way and throughout the visit, our guide will provide information about Lake Titicaca, the legends about the origin of these islands, about their traditions practices and folklore. It will also be possible to see how these islanders fish, hunt and gather for eggs. Tourism is a new income source for them, thus we can find very colorful fabric with a wide diversity of designs and nice drawings usually painted by children.
For a small tip we can enjoy a ride on a reed boat from one of the islands to the next, this ride is offered by the islanders with their boats.
Time spent: 16 kilometers, 3 hours. Departures: 09:00 and 14:00 hours.
